I read this and and I couldn't agree more. I hope Crysis 2 will fix these issues. In Crysis, I tried to snipe people. I used the "nano-suit" to improve my aim while in the prone position and even after hitting a guy four times in the head he wouldn't die. WTF? It was kind of fun though. Way too hard to kill enemies and the game code was so bad that it was impossible to play on any PC. This wasn't a good thing and most gamers thought is was a bragging right to say they run Crysis on their machines, but it wasn't. There were nearly as visually stunning games out at that time that others could run, but Crysis had so much hype that it didn't matter. Anyway, I found this. My copy of Crysis 2 should arrive any day now...
Why is Crysis terrible? (things the reviews never said)
Hey all, let me start this off by saying, I play nearly all FPS games that come out (boycotting MW2 still tho).
I beat Farcry on the hardest setting, I LOVED that game. I finally found Crysis on sale for 20 bucks this week with warhead.
Started up the game, beautiful graphics, slick suits, binoculars.
I thought I was playing the real Farcry 2 (the unrelated African outback shooter is still decent tho).
But as the game progressed, I found myself to be playing an INSANELY bug ridden and frankly, poorly conceived tech demo.
A) The enemies are immune to fire from long distances.
ie. I climbed, power suit jumped, snuck, up to the tops of huge hills, cranes, ect. Proceeded to go prone, slap on the midrange scope, later the sniper scope, and started plinking away.
The enemies were hit repeatedly (the game makes a slight plop sound when you score a hit) including headshots, but to no avail, these guys were invincible until I closed the range and let them shoot back at me.
B) Glitchicopters.
ie. I angered a helo, it proceeded to follow me endlessly for entire levels (from loading screen to loading screen) even when I had done 1) stealth suited off into the bushes, waited for my threat to be 0 (fully diminished past green) 2) stealth suited into the ocean, swam to the bottom, and same as before.
No matter what I did these choppers, while maybe not shooting at me, where constantly hovering over me just waiting on me to make an appearance.
As far as overall gameplay goes, the stealth option works well right until you secure an objective, at which point approximately up to 50 Korean soldiers you passed by (or tranked) converge on your position, at which point you have to bait them around corners, because you can only take about 8 hits from gunfire before your allegedly "super nano suit" gets you dead...
If you go in guns blazing, you are quickly flanked from all sides, rammed up the wazzoo with enemy future jeeps, and the ever lovin glitchicopter. Silencers on the gun produced no noticeable difference than me firing wildly into a crowd with no silencing.
I got about halfway through the second part of the tanking mission when I was stuck with no tank, no allies, and no rockets, with a wonderful glitchichopter hovering over me raining down fire on me as I tried to destroy some AA with c4...
At this point I said, forget this game, logged out and haven't played since.
Overall, I find this game to be pretty badly made, full of bugs, that were never an issue in Farcry, and generally, underwhelming for being this futuristic supersoldier...
I'm not as much writing to claim, woe is me, Its more to express things that so far, I have been unable to find in ANY review of this game... I'm sorry if you liked the game, but overall, it a Farcry from Farcry, and as far as I'm concerned this is the sequel...
