Diablo III: First Impressions
Ok. I finally bought Diablo 3 and started playing last night. Here are 10 things I think about the game as of right now. These may change as the game progresses.
1. The graphics are better than I thought. Sometimes I feel like it really is a Diablo game, but sometimes I am just thinking "wow this doesn't look right".
2. The animations for the armors aren't very good.
3. Colors are too saturated.
4. I have had a lot of fun playing it so far though.
5. It was awesome when RyDub joined my game last night. The multiplayer seems to be working very well so far.
6. My character feels slow. I don't remember them being this slow in D2. Maybe I am wrong? Also, there is no stamina now which is cool I guess. What the hell is this latency thing though?
7. I guess the new potion system works, but I do not like picking up "health orbs". What is this some arcade game?
8. It is kind of cool that we get so many more armor choices (shoulders, wrists, protective cups etc...). It was overwhelming at first though.
9. The new town portal system has a 10 sec cast time. I get it, but in D2 you would sometimes be up against 100s of enemies at once and needed a 0.1 sec town portal to get out of there. D2 was so fast and action packed it was nuts. I don't see this game getting that way. Of course, I am not even done with Act 1 in normal difficulty yet.
10. I do not understand the new skill system at all. How do you customize your character? You unlock skills as you level up, but the skills themselves don't seem to level up so unless all of the skills are perfectly balanced, everyone will end up just using the most powerful skills no? Also, you can get runes to modify these skills, but I don't get that either. Runes have levels as well. Why wouldn't everyone just use the best runes? My thoughts on the whole skill system as of right now are best presented here.

MIT did it! Doesn't this look weird though? They put some sort of non-stick coating (FDA approved) on the inside of the bottle.

Crysis 1 did suck
I read this and and I couldn't agree more. I hope Crysis 2 will fix these issues. In Crysis, I tried to snipe people. I used the "nano-suit" to improve my aim while in the prone position and even after hitting a guy four times in the head he wouldn't die. WTF? It was kind of fun though. Way too hard to kill enemies and the game code was so bad that it was impossible to play on any PC. This wasn't a good thing and most gamers thought is was a bragging right to say they run Crysis on their machines, but it wasn't. There were nearly as visually stunning games out at that time that others could run, but Crysis had so much hype that it didn't matter. Anyway, I found this. My copy of Crysis 2 should arrive any day now...
Why is Crysis terrible? (things the reviews never said)
Hey all, let me start this off by saying, I play nearly all FPS games that come out (boycotting MW2 still tho).
I beat Farcry on the hardest setting, I LOVED that game. I finally found Crysis on sale for 20 bucks this week with warhead.
Started up the game, beautiful graphics, slick suits, binoculars.
I thought I was playing the real Farcry 2 (the unrelated African outback shooter is still decent tho).
But as the game progressed, I found myself to be playing an INSANELY bug ridden and frankly, poorly conceived tech demo.
A) The enemies are immune to fire from long distances.
ie. I climbed, power suit jumped, snuck, up to the tops of huge hills, cranes, ect. Proceeded to go prone, slap on the midrange scope, later the sniper scope, and started plinking away.
The enemies were hit repeatedly (the game makes a slight plop sound when you score a hit) including headshots, but to no avail, these guys were invincible until I closed the range and let them shoot back at me.
B) Glitchicopters.
ie. I angered a helo, it proceeded to follow me endlessly for entire levels (from loading screen to loading screen) even when I had done 1) stealth suited off into the bushes, waited for my threat to be 0 (fully diminished past green) 2) stealth suited into the ocean, swam to the bottom, and same as before.
No matter what I did these choppers, while maybe not shooting at me, where constantly hovering over me just waiting on me to make an appearance.
As far as overall gameplay goes, the stealth option works well right until you secure an objective, at which point approximately up to 50 Korean soldiers you passed by (or tranked) converge on your position, at which point you have to bait them around corners, because you can only take about 8 hits from gunfire before your allegedly "super nano suit" gets you dead...
If you go in guns blazing, you are quickly flanked from all sides, rammed up the wazzoo with enemy future jeeps, and the ever lovin glitchicopter. Silencers on the gun produced no noticeable difference than me firing wildly into a crowd with no silencing.
I got about halfway through the second part of the tanking mission when I was stuck with no tank, no allies, and no rockets, with a wonderful glitchichopter hovering over me raining down fire on me as I tried to destroy some AA with c4...
At this point I said, forget this game, logged out and haven't played since.
Overall, I find this game to be pretty badly made, full of bugs, that were never an issue in Farcry, and generally, underwhelming for being this futuristic supersoldier...
I'm not as much writing to claim, woe is me, Its more to express things that so far, I have been unable to find in ANY review of this game... I'm sorry if you liked the game, but overall, it a Farcry from Farcry, and as far as I'm concerned this is the sequel...

Taco Bell Menu Science
Ok. Taco Bell no longer offers a Baja Cahlupa which is simply a Chalupa with Baja sauce. This is devastating to me since I love chalupas. I tried to get the Chalupa supreme (¿supremas?), but it just wasn't the same. Taco Bell was ruined for me. Fast forward a few months. The whole Cahlupa thing wasn't a big deal because I never go to Taco Bell, but it is a well know fact that there is this chemical that they put into every batch of "meat" that makes you crave it every few months. I mean they could be evil and up the concentration and force you to eat it every day, but Taco Bell is kind and only takes money from you once a quarter. That is compassionate if you ask me. Somehow they can survive with me only spending money once every 90 days or so. God bless them. Anyway, I was suffering from a particularly strong craving this Saturday and I decided to go. It was as if I was being called to there. When I arrived at the door though there was a sign for the "Cheesy Gordita Crunch" tacoburger-thingy and it looked good. I stared a little bit at this thing and realized it looked so good because 1. it was a taco and a gordita all in one, but they they weren't allowed to touch as they were separated by cheese and 2. it had baja sauce on it. I went in and stated to the kid at the register that I was confused that they no longer offered a Baja Chalupa, but they offered a baja gordita-taco? I then asked if they could put baja sauce on my chalupa supreme instead of sour cream and he said yes. After that I spent the rest of the day on the toilet thinking about how cool it was to have a baja chalupa again. They're back!

Creator of Community fired from own show
Dan Harmon was fired by NBC from Community. Now I admit the show is beyond weird and it is only getting weirder, but come on (in Jimmy from South Park's voice). Ok, Chevy Chase also hated his guts and they had a public feud, but really? Really? It's going to get cancelled after this next 13 episode run.

MadTV Fridays!
Ok. So out of respect of Kerry Wood I decided to postpone this week's MadTV Fridays! by a day. Let's get back to normal. Today we will focus on The Price is Right skits. Pay attention to the 1986 one. RyDub may find it particularly funny since we were the only people who laughed at a similar joke in The Ringer.

Diablo III first impressions review
So you may have heard of this little independent game that came out called Diablo III. I guess it’s a sequel to a game that came out 12 years ago? Diablo II was the name I believe. I’d never heard of it before. This new game is pretty sweet though.
All kidding aside, the Diablo series is one of my favorite video game series of all time, with Diablo II easily being in my top 3 favorite video games. Diablo III stays true to the formula of the previous games while also changing things up enough to either piss people off or make them cheer.
First things first, gone are attribute points and skill trees/points. Instead of distributing points at your own liking, it’s more like JRPGs where your attributes go up a predetermined amount each time you level up. Skills are automatically unlocked at certain levels and scale with your level. You have skill “categories” instead of trees. Two mouse skills, 4 action bar, and 3 passive abilities. There are individual skills that you can switch between under each category, but you can only have one active at a time, per category. THEN, there are runes that unlock as you level up that add different effects to your skills. There are 6 runes per skill and you can only have one of these active, per skill, at a time. For example, with the barbarian, he has an ability called Cleave. One of the runes may add a bleed effect to the skill. It may sound confusing, but it’s actually pretty simple when you see it in action.
Secondly, there is no “single player mode.” You are always online. You can play alone, but you’re still online. It’s not quite an MMO, but it’s close. This is good and bad. It’s good because your character is saved on the server so no matter where you log in from, you’ll always have access to the same characters. It’s bad because if the servers are undergoing maintenance or just overloaded, you can’t play. Blizzard has a pretty damn good reputation for keeping their servers up so this shouldn’t be a HUGE deal, but the possibility is still there.
There are other differences too like identification scrolls are gone. To identify the items, you just right click on them. Town portal scrolls are gone also. It’s now an ability that you cast over a few seconds. Potions are changed as well. You heal two different ways. Enemies will either drop health orbs that refill your health a little bit or you can use potions. When you use a potion though, there is a cooldown so you can’t just spam them like you could in previous Diablo games. Mercenaries are changed a bit too. They are able to learn 1 of 2 skills at certain levels. A few new classes show up. Two are similar to previous ones and one is a bit more different. Demon hunter is pretty much an amazon/assassin and the witch doctor is a sort of necromancer. The monk is the new class but does use a combo system like the assassin. Instead of mana like in previous games, each class has their own pool of “energy” to use. I don’t want to go in to it too much, but it’s nice to not have to carry around mana potions.
Other than that, it basically plays like the other Diablo games. Kill enemies, get loot, level up, do quests. Rinse and repeat. Somehow, more than any other action RPG, Diablo just gets the formula perfect to keep you coming back for more and more. I give Diablo III a 4.5/5.

¡Rob! cancelled. No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How? Why? No mas Rob.
Other cancelled shows
Other cancelled shows
Cancelled Shows 2012: As always, there are a lot of them, and
I’m sure some of the choices won’t be popular with fans. Of course,
that’s always the case around this time of year, when networks are
trying to figure out what to keep and what to kick to the proverbial
curb for the upcoming fall season.
Honestly, none of the cancelled programs should come as much of a shock, though the list of departures is sure to ruffle a few feathers. I know a few people that will be quite upset that “Alcatraz” got the boot, though nobody should be shocked that the animated version of “Napolean Dynamite” was cancelled. Besides one lonely individual, I can’t think of a single person who actively watched it.
Other shows that didn’t make the cut were “Rob”, “Are You There, Chelsea?”, “The Finder”, “The Firm”, “House” (finally), and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. The first wave of cancellations came through Friday afternoon, though the list has been amended several times since this morning.
However, a few programs managed to survive the season with their productions intact. In addition to obvious choices as “Big Bang Theory”, “Bones”, “Family Guy”, “Glee”, and “Fringe”, other shows that will return this fall are “Mike & Molly”, “Modern Family”, “Parenthood”, “Community”, and “Parks and Recreation”. For those of you who enjoy watching a network brutally whip the rotten, putrid corpse of a once-reliable horse, “The Office” has been renewed for yet another season.
To fill the void left by those shows that are, for all intents and purposes, dead and buried, a handful of titles have been announced. Included in this list is the reboot of “Beauty and the Beast”, “Friend Me”, “Guys with Kids”, and “The Carrie Diaries”, the latter of which is a prequel to the hit HBO series “Sex and the City”.
For a complete list of shows that made the cut, swing by TV Guide and have a good, hard look at the fortunate few that managed to hang around for one more year. The list of current cancellations have been included below.

New shave soap!
So I've been just using the shave soap that came with my shaving bowl. It's Col. Conk Lime Glycerine Shave Soap:
It gets the job done and smells pretty good, but I always thought that I could never get a good enough lather (compared to what I've seen from videos). Well, it turns out that I was probably right. On the suggestion of Sawsheezle, I decided to purchase Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury Scented Soap:
After just one shave so far, I love this soap. Not sure if it's just me or what but it definitely lathers A LOT better than the Col. Conk. The scent is nice but very subtle. When I finish shaving a section, the skin underneath feels cool and refreshing. It seems to moisturize a little better too.
Overall, the quality of my shave (in terms of closeness of shave, stubble, etc) didn't seem to be any different but the feeling of my skin afterwards felt better and not as dry as opposed to when I used the Col. Conk. Definitely glad the Sawsheezle finally talked me into buying it.
I give it 4/5 stars. (The Col. Conk I would give 2.5/5)

Must read. As we all know. We know nothing about how to properly train the human body. We need more top scientists to study this stuff.

Cubs lose, make history!
Think about all of the games that have ever been played in MLB history. I can think of at least a few. Today was the first day ever that two starting pitchers pitched against each other on their birthday. Ryan Dumpster (35) and Homer Bailey (26) were both born on this day in 1977 and 1986, respectively. We still lost...
