I can't believe it's butter

I've been on a food kick ever since I went to Europe and discovered that British food was actually good even though I was led to believe it was crap. Now, admittedly, it is just potatoes and sausages and cod and fries, but the ingredients they use are better than what we have in the US. Even starts with the basics. Did you ever imagine that the butter you were eating was crap? Are you still eating margarine? If the answer to the latter is 'yes' then I weep for you. Let's talk butter...

Here you see 4 butters I purchased at various capitalist establishments around town. From the top left and going clockwise: USA commodity grade AA butter, 'Plurga', Finlandia, and some elite artisan French butter from Trader Juan's.

Why I am buying and comparing 4 butters you might ask? Because I recently discovered that European butter is unusually yellow. I mean almost golden in color. I found out this was because the cows they used are hormone free and most importantly grass fed. Cows in the US eat grain and corn. Corn is in everything man.

Let's compare the color of the butter. These slabs are in the same order as the picture above.

The USA commodity butter is what we all know and love and man have we been lied to. The Plurga (top right) I purchased because I thought it would be what I desired, but I discovered it is actually USA made by Keller farms who own a huge number of brands. They may have a near monopoly on the butter industry. The French Trader Joe's butter is obviously far superior to those two, but it isn't quite the deep dark yellow of the Finlandia. I am still searching for the mythical Icelandic butter, but Finlandia is my new go-to. My goodness is it good.
