Windows 7 and Resulting Hardware Upgrade

So I am starting to realize that my old laptop, which is running very well for the tasks I require, is starting to show its age. Sometime after Windows 7 comes out I am thinking about purchasing a new desktop computer. Does anyone have a recomendation about specs or places to purchase computers in a year or two?

  1. This would be a better question closer to when you buy it, but in a year or two you could probably get a really good computer for cheap as hell.

Shit, you can right now, but with the demand for computer resources going down with 7, realistically you just need like 2 gigs of ram and a dual core processor. I keep debating getting 4 gigs for my laptop, but I counter with the fact that I never come close to using the 2 gigs I have, so having 4 would not speed up my system at all.

Not sure what I'm saying in this comment, but the one part of a desktop you don't want to go cheap on is the processor/motherboard combo. If you get a really good processor, you can upgrade the other parts of you computer and extend the usefulness of your pc.

  2. It depends on the usage.

I trust you will be fine with the specs Steinberg described.

I will not go under 4GB of Ram for a laptop again and under 8GB for a desktop again.

Also, liquid cooling for a future desktop.
