Coffee Enlightenment
Another fur member has requested I post my coffee setup here. I took a bunch of pictures of my brew from this morning but I am not really going to go into the details of the process. This process is not my own. I achieved coffee enlightenment from the internet and will try to post some good resources at the bottom of this post.

Commentary on equipment:
The chemex products measure a cup at 5 oz, so the 8 cup is really 4 10oz cups. At work we also have a 10 cup(5 10oz). I prefer the 8 cup. It fits better in the hand but can still make up to 4 cups if needed.
Also, all products have at least a 4 star rating on amazon and all have been great so far.
Gooseneck kettles give more pouring control, but are not necessary. I would recommend though.
The Process:
Depending on the bean, I usually do about 18 grams per cup of coffee.
I try to brew at 185 degrees fahrenheit(why is that word so german?).
10 oz of water is ~295 grams. I usually go a little over that to account for loss in the filter an beans.
Ensuring the beans align to the outside of the cone seems to provide the best results.

Fun videos
Just thought I'd post some fun videos.
Good Ol Yoko Ono (Happens at 1:19. Chuck Berry's eyes say it all):
Dave Grohl teaching Kyle Gass how to write a hit song:
Not necesarily a Mumfor & Sons fan but this video is great. I now want a movie starring all these guys to be made. And Will Forte is extremely underrated:

Forget high speed rail
High speed rail is a complete waste of money. It's not that much faster than regular rail travel but a lot more expensive of a ticket. This is what we need. Hyperloop.

PS4 vs. X-Box One
Here are the top 12 sellers in "video games" on Amazon as of 06/19/2013.
Sure the X-Box one is #1, but the PS4 takes the #3,4,5,8,10 spots! Wow. I wonder what the aggregate numbers are? PS4 seems to be winning hard. Oh and the dual-shock 4 takes the #9 spot and the Playstation-Network pass takes #6. That is 7 out of the top 10 spots!

Modern thoughts about tech/thoughts about modern tech
- What is a core?
- There is more than one cloud.
- Why are PC monitors so expensive at high resolutions?
- Why does my windows 7 machine still not understand two finger scrolling?
- Plastic should no longer be a design material for laptops.
- When your laptop from 5 years ago had a better screen than your new one then shart.
- Why do projectors still not play nice with lappy tops?
- Why does every PC OEM battery suck?
- Who is buying 17" gaming laptops?
- Not all GHz are created equal.
- Why do we not use only open source standards? (sorry thunderbolt and HDMI)
- Electric cars need these numbers clearly displayed: cost per mile (CPM) and total range (TR).
- Once all PC games are written with open source technology (i.e. opengl) and are available on linux then I will never need to use Windows again.

Rage Against The Machine doesn't do what you tell them
Rage Against The Machine was on BBC Radio 5 back in 2009 to promote a battle with them and X Factor's winner to be at the top of the charts for Christmas. Fans started this campaign as a "protest" against the pop music being promoted around the time. Anyway, before they were on, the people at BBC had asked Rage to play a clean version of the song, omitting the infamous chorus of "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" at the end of the song. The band told them that they would omit it but come on, did anyone really expect them to keep their promise on this? Here's a YouTube video of the incident. Everyone with half a brain had to see this coming from a mile away. Then the female broadcaster has the audacity to proclaim "so buy Joe's [the X Factor winner] records" just because they cursed on air. Wahhhh. (Article about the incident)

Basically, the evidence is that Carlos Quentin crowds the plate and gets beaned more than anyone else in baseball, significantly more. So the fact that he charged the mound and broke a man's collarbone makes him seem like a raging psychopath.

Best cities for singles
check this out. I am about to undergo a big transition in my life as I move away from Tucson. I have no idea where I may end up or in what way my dreams of becoming a professor may be squashed, but I am at least trying to gain info about cities I may seek employment in. Obviously being single is a big thing when considering a new city (it is for me anyway). Again, just check this out.

The New Normal
This show is queer. There are a lot of funny parts though. Somehow ultra-rich homosexuals in comedies are a fresh source for humor. Anywho, they are naming the surrogate baby Sawyer!!!!!!!! Now admittedly it is one of the gay Dad's last names, but wow. Sawyer is one of the most popular names amongst the homosexual community (lesbians mostly...for their daughters no less). Obama!

Evoland & DLC Quest
I'll be reviewing two indie games that I've found very exciting and a bit different recently. The first is Evoland. It's a cool little game that takes you through the evolution of RPG/action adventure games. You start off in a very pixelated world; there isn't even any sound. As you progress through the game, you go from 8-bit graphics to HD. Other elements, like being able to save and turn based battles are introduced along the way as well.
DLC Quest is a game that pokes fun at, and maybe shows a glimpse into the future of gaming where you have to purchase "DLC" (downloadable content) just to enable sound or even character animations. Thank god we're not there yet. As you play the game, you collect coins and then use these coins to unlock said "DLC."

Ein Fur
So I know these things are reserved for capital_protoytpe in the usual way, but I thought I would offer my services on a move-film review of sorts. I just saw Pitch Perfect and before I et started I must give you some background information. It is know that I love queer shit from time to time and this move works well in that regard. What many of you may not have know is that I was recently dating an opera singer and that this relationship was the longest of my adult life. Five dates mofo! Anyway, it was my final date that I suggested to the opera girl that we watch "Pitch Perfect" together and then make out and possibly bone. I had suggested this previously before but it did not happen for a variety of circumstances, but the last time I suggested it she said she had just seen it. Well, long story short, she got a sinus infection and we never saw each other again. You know how this stuff happens right? Anyway, no harm no foul. She had ridiculously large breasts and I did genuinely like her, but once someone gets a sinus infection, the relationship is pretty much over. Anywho, I have been super depressed lately as I am finishing up my tenure here down in Mexico while I finish my dissertation. I was at school today at 7pm writing away.. Gay. Who is going to read my dissertation? Why am I even trying? Where am I going to be in a few months? Things are not looking good at the moment. Anywho x2, I decided to jet home tonight and finally watch "Pitch Perfect". I immediately began drinking as I started watching, but I must say this movie really affected me. It was queer, but it was also funny and genuine at times. I realize now that I have wasted the last 8 years of my life and I now dream about going back to school to join some club and gain a bunch of friends and sing songs and shit. How much fun would that be? A lot I suppose. If you have noticed the decent grammar here it is only because I have been going back and fixing things from time to time. Anywho x3, I think this movie was really funny and I happened to see it at a time when I was most depressed. I am not sure of my future at this point, but signs point to my next adventure being the boning of RyDub's ex girlfriend which I am trying to avoid. Not that I don't want to be Eskimo bros with you man, but well it is complicated.... I mean , what do I gain if I bone her? Anything? It isn't worth my time to even care. I need to focus on banging new chicks. Also my car doesn't even have AC now and it is so fucking hot out here. I fucking hate it man. So much. Anywho x4. I loved this movie. It came at a critical time for me this weekend as I have been super depressed lately and it lifted my spirits. I mean, what is not to like about big titted thin girls who sing rhythmical songs and dance to them? This move was good. "Pitch Perfect" 4 stars - ****. Ok I am drunkish at the moment, but I wanted to convey this message. Fuck everyone else. Watch the shit you want to watch. Fuck what dems peeeps think. Enjoy your life. Pitch Perect is a funny movie-film that peeps can enjoy and that sawsheezle recommends.

Ain't no lie
So awhile back, Comcast announced that they would be increasing two of their internet packages. I just so happen to have one of those: Blast internet. Before, it was about 25-30Mbps which is pretty damn good. Well, now it's almost doubled to 55Mbps. Needless to say, I am very pleased by this. Especially since it does not cost me anything extra. Here's a speed test I ran:

Nintendo 64 game "case"
My dad made me this for Christmas/my birthday. A little different than what I had in mind but still awesome and gets the job done. I wanted the labels of the games to be seen when you opened the drawers so maybe this was the best option. He also thought I said I owned 90 games when in reality I only own 48. So I'm only using half of the storage space currently. Only catch now is how to get the games to stick in place. I tried using little glue dots but they're not really reapplyable. Whatever I use has to be really thin as the clearance to the top of the next shelf is very small. Any thoughts or ideas?

Graphics card benchmarks
Sawsheezle and I purchased the same graphics card (and I mean exact same graphics card) back in August. His has served him well but he was thinking of selling it. RyDub, on the other hand, was thinking of possibly upgrading in a couple months. Sawsheezle made the proposition of a "try and buy" (not to be confused with the vastly different "hang and bang"). RyDub would pay $20 (basically shipping) to test out the card and see if he then wanted to purchase it in a couple months. This was very intriguing to RyDub so he accepted. The card came in the mail today so of course I ran some benchmarks both before and after installing the card. Here are the results:
Single 660 ti Heaven benchmark:
Dual 660 ti Heaven benchmark:
Single 660 ti Valley benchmark:
Dual 660 ti Valley benchmark:
As you can see, frame rates almost doubled. This was better than I expected. I only expected a 75% performance increase, at best. What I got was about an 87% increase in performance. Not bad. Now to make Sawsheezle an offer he can not refuse...

If you haven't had enough Dave Grohl in your diet
If you haven't seen this movie/documentary yet, I highly suggest you obtain a copy and watch it. It's about Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana and Neil Young to Rage Against The Machine recorded there. A lot of people attribute the custom Neve 8028 Console for the sound that they were able to get while recording there. Drummers also love the sound that the studio seems to produce. Here's a quote from the Sound City wikipedia page, "Producer Greg Fidelman recorded the sound of a bass drum from each of the big recording studios in the Los Angeles area, subsequently playing the sample for Metallica without divulging from which studio the sound had originated. Based upon this sample, the band chose Sound City Studios to record Death Magnetic." When everyone else was going to all digital, Sound City stuck to analog tape recording. About 2/3 of the movie is about the recording studio and then the last 1/3 is Dave Grohl recording music with a plethora of people who've also recorded and love Sound City. If you're a music fan, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie. You can purchase it here for $12.99 OR you can "gift" it to someone for only $10. Create another email address and send it to yourself. I think it's only on sale for this week.
Another good music documentary (if you like the Foo Fighters that is) I finally decided to watch is Foo Fighters: Back And Forth. It's all about the Foo. Starting with a little bit of Nirvana, obviously, it tracks their entire history right up through their newest album, Wasting Light. This movie definitely reinforces my opinion that Dave Grohl is one of the coolest guys in the music business. He comes off a little like an ass sometimes, but he really is doing what's best for the band. One interesting fact is that Dave almost became the drummer for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Weird. This documentary does a great job of interviewing past members and people from other bands that members of the Foo have been in. It really is an entire history of the band. The Foo Fighters seem to have such an amazing time playing. These are the kinds of bands that I just love. There's a reason that whenever I list favorite bands, they're always high up on the list. After watching this movie, they may take the number one spot. You'll have to "obtain a copy" somehow because I don't believe it's streaming on Netflix or any other service.

Poor Joe Schmo
I don't know if you guys have ever heard of The Joe Schmo Show. It started in 2003 on Spike. Basically it's a "reality" show where only one person thinks it's real. Everyone else on the "show" is an actor. The first season's fake reality show within the show was called Lap Of Luxury. Each actor has an archetype such as "the gay guy," "the rich bitch," etc. One the actors is "the buddy" who makes friends and tries to softly guide The Joe towards certain decisions. They compete in challenges just like Survivor or whatever. They do little interviews during the course of the show. The Joe just always takes everything so seriously and is really trying to play while the actors just discuss how they've messed up or how they can't believe they're doing this. At the end of each show, one person is sent home but the actors just write ridiculous things on the papers to cast their vote since it's all staged. It was great. The Joe was a guy named Matt Kennedy Gould and it's just so funny to see how far they can push this guy without giving themselves up. They slip up a couple times and when they finally reveal what's been going on, he kinda freaks out but ends up being a good sport about it. Here's a clip:
Kristen Wiig was actually one of the actors in the first season as was David Hornsby from It's Always Sunny and Unsupervised.
The second season premiered the next year. It's show within the show was called Last Chance For Love and it was kind of a play on The Bachelor. This time they had two "Joes"; one male and one female. The female actually figured out what was going on separately from the male almost right away. The producers make her offer to stay and if she agrees not to reveal the secret then she will also receive the prize money at the end. To be honest, I didn't watch all of the second season so I can't comment on it too much.
The third season just started a couple weeks ago. This season, the fake reality show is The Full Bounty where "everyone" is competing to become a bounty hunter. If you haven't ever checked it out before, I highly suggest it. One of the actors is "deaf" (I guess it's funny but that would be so difficult to keep up constantly, I would think) and she has a ventriloquist dummy that she brings on the show as her "comfort from home." Lorenzo Lamas is also on this season. One of the cops from the local police dept from Super Troopers is also in it. It airs on Tuesdays on Spike at 9pm Central Time.

Never gets old
I was reading an article about Ray Lewis supossedly taking IGF-1. The important fact here is that it is derived from deer antler velvet. One of the top comments was this and made me burst out laughing:
Deer 1: Shhhhh shhhh here he comes again guys.
Deer 2: What’s the good word Ray?
Ray Lewis: God is great. God is great man. You guys got any more of that stuff?
Deer 3: [holding back his laughter] Oh yeah we got some left for you.
Ray Lewis: Great. Same deal as last time?
Deer 3: [biting his lip] Yup. Same deal.
[Ray hands over wad of cash]
Deer 2: [trembling] You ready?
Ray Lewis: Ughh I hate this part.
[Ray leans forward, opens mouth and lifts up tongue]
Deer 1: Here it comes!!!
[All 3 deer spray into Ray’s mouth]
[Ray wipes off face, flexes tricep and exits the woods]
[The deer start rolling around on the grass laughing]
Deer 3: It never gets old! It never gets old!!

This is what I want (and I believe Sawsheezle wants too)
So this game that I mentioned a couple weeks ago called Path Of Exile has an insane passive skill "tree." Click on this link to see the size and click on this link to see it in action and spec out your skills. It's very reminiscent/identical to Final Fantasy X's sphere grid, which I absolutely loved. This game goes into open beta tomorrow. I can't wait.

Path of Exile
I've been following this game for quite some time and it finally enters open beta on Jan 23. Supposed to be amazing. Mix of old school RPGs and acion RPG games like Diablo III.
