The Motorola Droid was one of the first Android phones to have an unlockable bootloader. This is important for people who root phones as this makes it very easy to be able to root and install custom ROMs. The Droid was also pure, vanilla, Android. No silly UI skin like Motoblur or Touchwiz. I loved this phone and it was many people's first foray in the Android OS. Because of this, it had a huge following among people who make ROMs and people refuse to let this phone die. The last official update to the Droid was just Android 2.2 (Froyo). Since then 2.3 (Gingerbread), 3.0 (Honeycomb, although this was just for tablets), 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and 4.1 (Jelly Bean) have all been released. People have made ROMs based on these releases for the Droid just because it's fun to see such an "old" phone run these iterations of Android. It's also funny because even newer phones sometimes don't get official releases to new versions of Android but here is one of the first Android phones still getting some love, even though it's not official.
I must say that this is perhaps too nerdy...
ReplyDeleteYup! Still doing it. I'll send you an email from it.
