So i finally have enough money to complete my computer. Here are the final specs:
Case: Rosewill R218
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA770T
Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5770 1GB
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333
Power Supply: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500 500W
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM
Overall, pretty happy. Would i have liked to have gotten the Phenom II X6? Fuck yes. Can i upgrade to that later? With this motherboard, yes. Can upgrade the RAM too. Hopefully this lasts me a very, very long time.

If you want to get fancy you should think about getting a SSD drive for your boot drive. I am telling you that you won't believe the speed difference. We started putting them in our store POS servers and they used to take about 1-2 minutes to reboot. Now they take about 10-15 seconds.
ReplyDeleteIf you can afford even a small one, it would be totally worth it. Keep the 500gb as storage too.
You should be happy. Don't worry about going to an x6 unless you are doing a ton of multi-threaded apps. Gaming doesn't scale as well to 6 cores as it does to 4 cores I have read. I think the first upgrade would be to go with a new cpu cooler (as we dicussed). Then the next upgrade could be to sell the graphics card and get another one, but you will be fine for a good while.
ReplyDeleteJeremy - that's another thing i would have liked, a SSD. unfortunately, definitely not enough in my budget for it. someday, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteSaw - i am happy. i know i don't need the X6, but i wish i had it. definitely buying a cooler when i get a chance.
