Thinking about why Community hasnt been as successful as Parks and Recreation or The Office. I think it is because Parks and Recreation and The Office are for a broader audience, whereas Community if for young people. Parks and Recreation and The Office add a lot of Pam and Jim or Rob Lowe just to get those relatively older female demographic to tune into these shows. The Office especially tries to hit the female demographic with Pam and Jim's relationship. (In the British version, which I have much more respect for, the Pam and Jim character's never get together. Instead, Jim gets stuck at the shitty job and starts to become the Michael Scott boss himself and rationalizing it and the Pam marries the Roy and they become miserable trailer trash. This is a far more interesting plot than the American counterpart, where Jim is going to eventually strike it out on his home with his happy little family with Pam.)
Also, I think Community costs more. So interesting shows, eventually appeal to a narrower audience. That audience is infinitely more excited about the show. In addition, Community costs more. As such, The Office and Parks and Recreation have no trouble getting renewed since they have a broader appeal and are cheaper to make. From a business standpoint, I think it makes sense. From the standpoint of getting the media I want, this really sucks.
Excellent write up capital_prototype. I've heard that people are trying to get TBS to pick up Community like they picked up Cougar Town. If you watch Community, this is even more funny and should definitely happen.

Absolutely genius video. It's a shame they only got a 13 episode order.
