It seems like Apple has patented just about every type of thing one can do with a touchscreen. My question is, wasn't much of this stuff implemented on old PDAs and on just a goddamned trackpad on a laptop?

Nailed it about the PDAs part. The things is, if it wasn't patented, then it doesn't matter. Apple is getting way out of hand but really, the patent laws need to change.
