RyDub builds a (semi)portable Frisbee golf basket Part 2

UPDATE: Bought one. It's now in our office :-) (and yes that is a shark dirigible in the upper right corner)

I've been pricing out parts to build my frisbee golf basket and i'm coming to find that it'd be just as cheap to buy one. Even after changing to PVC pipe, it still came out to about $100. So i decided to look into getting a really nice one. These are the two i'm looking at getting:

SkillShot (about $120)
Definitely the most portable, folds up like an umbrella and has a carrying bag, and only weighs 26 lbs. Only has 16 chains as opposed to 24 like the DISCatcher Pros on the courses. It does only have one row of chain too. From reviews i've read, it actually has very similar "grab" like the Pros do. It does have a smaller "window of opportunity" for catching the discs, but this could a good thing because it would make you be more accurate.

DISCatcher Sport (about $175)
Almost like the real thing. Obviously more expensive but this is high quality stuff right here. Galvanized powder coated, sturdy base, etc. Weighs more at 40 lbs but does come about into 6 pieces. Has 18 chains (an inner and an outer layer) so that's better.

  1. It's sad how much raw material cost when bought in limited quantities. The skillshot to me is the only real portable/storable one. The clearance for discs doesn't look to be all that great, but it is the best option I think.

  2. After having used it quite a bit now, it's not bad. I'd give it a 8/10 (compared to the DISCatcher Pros). The opening does seem to be smaller, but i have yet to measure it. The chains do a great job of grabbing the discs. The base is a lot wider than i thought and it is very stable. It even has metal rings in the legs so you use stakes to secure it into the ground. All in all, i'm happy with it.
