Opening Day Remarks

Ok it is even more clear to me now that Bud Selig needs to be fired. Opening day sucked. Why was it on a Thursday? Why were there only 6 games being played? It was 40 degrees in New York and Cincinnati yesterday. Why are we starting the season so early? Again, I ask that we get rid of the playoffs so we can open the season two weeks into April and still cut short the length of the season so it doesn't go into November. Opening day should be on a Saturday and every team should play I believe. Nonstop baseball would be amazing. Fire Bud Selig. Elect Sawsheezle.

  1. I am confused about this statement.

"Again, I ask that we get rid of the playoffs"

    Please elaborate.

  2. Basically, I wan to go back to a non playoff system which baseball used to have. No divisions, only NL and AL. The winner of the pennant goes to the world series. Each league has even number of teams (16) and each team plays the other teams in the league the same number of times (say 10*(16-1) = 150 games total). This would shorten the season and bring back meaning to the pennant race.

  4. I like the playoffs. If you want to argue the best team deserves to be in the world series and that a 5 or 7 game series doesn't give you the best team every time, how would you decide who should win the world series?

Playoffs are exciting. You would probably know that if you weren't a cubs fan.

  5. I am not arguing the current system isn't flawed, but as long as interleague play is the way it is then there is no way to even out the schedules.

Pat and I sat down and thought up something once, I will try to remember it now.

Obviously even the leagues(fuck the astros and put them in the al west).

You play everyone in your league not your division 6 times( 6*10 = 60). You play everyone in the other league 3 times alternating home/away by year(15*3 = 45). That puts you at 105. Then you can split up the rest in your own division((162-105)/4 = 14.25. Either trim that down to shorten the season (12*4=48? giving you 153) or trim it down and spread over your league (7*10=70 + 45 = 115: (162-115)/4 = 11.75)). You could get creative. Also, with shortening the season you could have the lds rounds have 7 games instead of 5.
