There are several new smart phones being announced at CES right and the buzz is all about dual core cpus in the phones along with support for Verizon's LTE (4g) network. I am strongly opinionated that the Nvidia Tegra 2 platform will be the dominate force in smart phones in 2011.

the prices for big red's 4g are kinda crazy. i really want a 4g capable phone but i'll be fine with just using 3g on it.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I am excited about is the dual core cpus that are in some of these new phones. They will be much faster when it comes to games and multimedia apps. Also many of these new phones are getting higher quality displays too.
ReplyDeletethat's exactly why i want one of the 4g phones. plus, apparently Android 3.0 has a minimum requirement of a dual core cpu. now i'm sure someone will still make a 3.0 rom for the Droid, but still, i'd rather have my phone take full advantage of the new OS.
ReplyDeleteApparently the current version 2.2 doesn't really support advanced multi threading features so when 2.3 hits the dual core phones will get even faster.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 3.0 cpu requirement
http://www.unwiredview.com/2011/01/06/no-cpu-requirements-for-android-3-0-honeycomb-yeah-right/
every iteration of the OS should speed things up as they get kinks worked out and whatnot. i'd be surprised if 2.3 really makes them that much faster, simply because they've already been working on it. now 3.0 will probably make them fly.
ReplyDeleteand about the quote about 3.0, that's my point. no "hard" requirement. it'll probably be like iOS. one of the latest ones that came out for the 3gs (too lazy to look up which one) but with less features. obviously this makes sense, but i'd still like a new phone to take full advantage of the new features.
I am still hoping to get my first one. I know some people who have had four different smartphones already.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are that the HTC Thunderbolt is now a letdown because it isn't dual core and that the Motorola Droid Bionic will be the champion on Verizon or that new LG phone, but I am awaiting specs for it.
the Bionic does look cool. are you talking about the LG Optimus? i swear there was a phone with 1 gig of ram, but i'm looking through and can't seem to find it.
ReplyDeleteI am talking about the Lg Revolution for Verizon.
ReplyDeleteThe Motorola Atrix 4g for AT&T has 1 gig of ram. The Droid Bionic only has 512MB.
